I'm Sam and I can't choose. I like to make whatever. Crocheting, painting, knitting, embroidery and, of course, drawing. And much more. I like to combine those skills, but not necessarily.
I started drawing digitally when I was glued to me with a newborn baby and really missed my pencils, wool, brushes, everything. With my son in one hand (ok, arm) and a stylus in the other - so regularly not using my dominant hand - I could finally draw again. Soon I had the drawing programme in hand (it really felt like magic and still does sometimes - not that you don't do the real thing, but scratching on glass with a stick usually doesn't do much) and I started making commissioned portraits, greeting cards and other illustrations. Now I work more and more freely, from myself and my own desires and interests. Not just with illustration, but with all the materials I have at hand. For a long time, I have been a bit afraid of colour, which I am now trying to make up for in a hurry.
Here at Werk aan de muur, my colourful illustrations are allowed to go out into the wide world. Sometimes they are messy and tight, sometimes chaotic and goofy, but they are always mine and make me happy. Do you?
