About Marc van der Heijden • Kampuchea Art
Photography and particularly street photography has always been a common thread in his life. Partly due to his time as a Unifil soldier in Lebanon in the 1980s, he initially focused on reportage in countries such as Turkey and Iran, among others. The hospitality and special encounters there were often very moving. His photos were published in the monthly magazine "Panorama" and daily newspapers such as "De Telegraaf" and "Het Eindhovens Dagblad", among others.
Since early 2015, he has now also been working as an 'auction photographer' for Consignment clients and, in addition to being a photographer and artist, he is also active as an art dealer in 20th-century applied art.
In 2020, he travelled to Cambodia for the first time for a yoga retreat. It was love at first sight. He was very moved by the kindness and warmth of the Cambodian people. Especially given the fact, that despite their emotional struggle with the past (Pol Pot period), they try to make the best of it.
Partly thanks to this trip, he revived his passion for street photography, combining his decades of experience with the new art form AI. He now spends half the year in Cambodia and lives on the coast in Kampot, where he creates most of his works.
