I am Kim Aukema Imthorn, 38 years old, and I live in Haarlem with my family. As a child therapist and coach, I work daily with children to strengthen their self-confidence and help them with their emotional and mental development. My holistic approach looks at the child as a whole: body, feelings, thinking and energy. By guiding children in a playful and accessible way, I not only help them understand themselves better, but also learn to deal with the challenges they face. This is a process in which I support them by translating complex feelings and thoughts into images and experiences that are understandable to them.
I was originally trained at the Artemis Academy, where I obtained my Bachelor of Arts. The Artemis Academy is a college that focuses on trend forecasting, styling and art direction, and it taught me how to use my creative vision to push boundaries between different disciplines. This creative background has helped me approach concepts and ideas in an innovative and visual way. The ability to combine art, design and storytelling means that I can now uniquely translate themes such as emotions, self-image and brain processes into images for children. I believe that children are inherently visual, and that it is much easier for them to understand abstract and sometimes complex ideas if they can see and experience them.
