Free as a bird?

by Kim Aukema Imthorn

𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗷𝗶𝗷 𝘇𝗼 𝘃𝗿𝗶𝗷 𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗹?
Do you dare to zoom in on my new painting… and perhaps a little on yourself too? In a world where we seem to have everything – comfort, technology, entertainment – we sometimes forget what true freedom means.

𝗜𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗷𝗻 𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘂𝘄𝘀𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗷 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻 𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗲𝗹𝗸𝗮𝗮𝗿. 𝗗𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝘇𝗶𝘁 𝘃𝗼𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗲 “𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀” 𝗵𝗲𝗯𝗯𝗲𝗻… except freedom. They scroll, swipe, consume and dream through screens of flying, whilst the sky around them is wide open. They pose as influencers for fish fingers, whilst the real fish simply swim through the water beneath them. They live in cages of comfort and screens, too busy with work, TV, likes, filters and followers to realise that their wings are still there. Even the cage remains close to the meditating bird that visualises what it would be like to be free. And even the lovebirds seek love and attention online, whilst they’re already sitting side by side.

𝗘𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝗻, 𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗺: a tree full of life, freedom and connection. Here, birds fly of their own accord. They build nests together; parents set the right example, teaching their young to catch worms, whistle songs, catch fish from the lake and eat berries from the wild. No screens, no idleness, just real life. There, you see what freedom can be. There is love, cooperation and joy.

𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻. 𝗧𝘄𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗻. 𝗘é𝗻 𝗸𝗲𝘂𝘇𝗲.
This painting is more than just decoration. It is a mirror, an invitation, a confrontation. The more you look, the more you see… of yourself??? So:
Are you a free spirit, or trapped in a cage with Wi-Fi, right in the middle of the rat race?
Give this mirror a place in your home, your practice, your school, business or organisation. Let it speak to those who dare to look.
