About Domstad Rudie
My love of drawing began at primary school when I traced a picture of William of Orange from my history book using Indian ink. Then, at secondary school, I started visiting museums and received top marks for freehand and line drawing. My exam work was stolen during the school exhibition. Because I thought a classmate was better at freehand
drawing, I didn’t choose to pursue art. But I never lost sight of drawing and, for example, took a course in figure drawing. Peter Gray’s *Learning to Draw* is also on my bookshelf. The coronavirus pandemic
led to nine months of obsessive drawing. Then ‘Domstad Rudie’ was born. In my (predominantly) colourful drawings of the Domstad, all my loves come together in a way that suits my
cheerful, optimistic nature. To quote Pippi Longstocking: “I’ve never done it before, so I can do it”.
