Photo project Gardens Medical Center Leeuwarden (MCL)

Photography project of the gardens in and around the Medical Center Leeuwarden. The project area is bordered by Henri Dunantweg, Aldlânsdyk, Oostergoweg and Borniastraat. There are also other care and medical institutions within this area, such as Noorderbreath, Revalidation Friesland and Sanquin. With the photo project I want to emphasize the great importance of greenery and nature in and around hospitals and other healthcare institutions. Not only for patients, but also for doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers. As a patient myself, I experienced a lot of support from my view of a beautiful courtyard garden when I was admitted to nursing ward Z, the Hematological Intensive Care (HIC) in the MCL, in the spring and summer of 2018 due to acute leukemia. From my isolation room I could see and photograph the flowering trees, shrubs and plants. The birds that visited the garden during this very warm spring and summer period formed grateful photo objects for me. Through the window I photographed and filmed them drinking from the placed water bowl and bathing in it. I considered my room as a luxurious bird hide. Thanks to the heavy chemotherapy, intensive radiation and stem cell transplantation, I am now doing very well again.
