About "the French Pastry Chef"

About the artwork

A French pastry chef is whisking eggs. What is he baking? Will he make eclairs? Perhaps. He looks focused and the background is a cheerful pattern of pink tiles.

I like to make scenes that are taken from life. The image of a chef wearing a chef's hat and a chef's uniform, who was focussed on his work, soon came to mind. After I added a nice pattern, I decided he should be specialised in pastries and so he became a pastry chef.

French cuisine really captures my imagination; the precision that goes along with pastry baking even more so. Films like Wes Anderson's the Grand Budapest Hotel excite my imagination in terms of colour and image, so this is also reflected in my work, which is often colourful in itself. The feeling is of old, 60s design, the familiar cosiness of Polish and French film posters and advertisements.

This image was created by pasting layers of paper on top of each other. It is a collage of recycled cardboard and coloured paper mixed with drawing. It is always a challenge to glue everything in the right order. I am also very fond of surface patterns. So for this work, I created a few, hand-drawn patterns as backgrounds. I found this pink pattern the most fitting, although I tried the other patterns too. The sweet colour fits well with a pastry shop.

Very suitable for Wes Anderson fans, people who like old film posters or graphic design.

I get my inspiration from nature and like to daydream. Animals and people sometimes seem to melt together in these reveries.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
