2023 - 80 x 80 cm Acrylic / Canvas canvas From the bridge next to my parental home, you look straight into the farmlands of 's-Gravendeel, where potatoes grew under the potatoes for my beloved Hoeksche Chips.
As a child, I explored the ditch in front of it in inflatable boats, canoes, skates and of course I got wet sometimes.
As a teenager, I took many photos of the sunset at this spot. The tree in the meadows was also always my view from my teenage room. ` The tree is in real danger of disappearing. And the field too has a new use. Houses will soon be built there ('s-Gravendeel-West phases 1 and 2). We cross our fingers that the Hoeksche Waard municipality will leave this tree standing - and otherwise this painting is a nice memento. I gave the original to my parents - it is their favourite view too! In terms of use of colour, the painting is very yellow, which evokes warmth and cheerfulness, but the brown refers to nostalgia, which was the emotion I felt when making this work.
