Bergchurch seen from the Bergstreet in Deventer on a beautiful snowy January winterday . The snow was as seen in the picture largely melted but fortunately still somewhat visible in the photo. This is a very nice piece of Deventer with beautiful old architecture and beautiful authentic looking street lamps with lovely soft light . It was snowing that day and it was gone the day after.
Berg Church was built in the years 1198-1209 , near the former dockland Deventer . She is in the heyday of the Hanseatic city founded by monks of the Westphalian Varlar (near Coesfeld ) . The church , a Romanesque basilica was dedicated to St. Nicholas , the patron saint of sailors . The building is very similar to churches from the Baltic countries . It was consecrated by the Bishop of Livonia .
