Salome is the daughter of Herod Philip and Herodias. Her name is known from the work of the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus. In the New Testament Salome is not mentioned by name, but later she appears as the daughter of Herodias. At the insistence of her mother, Salome brought about the death of John the Baptist by asking for the head of John the Baptist as a reward for her dancing.
