The poppy, also known as poppy poppy, is a symbol of consolation, but also of the commemoration of the dead. The poppy owes this symbolism to the battlefields in northern France which turned red after the First World War.
The distinctive colour of the poppy is red. At the base of the petals a black part becomes visible. The four leaves of the flower are larger than we are used to from flowers, so they overlap to a large extent. The flower has hairs on both stems and leaves.
