It is a hard time for the nutria. Nutria, also known as swamp beavers or coypu rats, are a species that should not be found in our country. Originally from South America, they were brought to Europe for their pelts, where they were bred in fur farms. Some of them managed to escape, others were abandoned or freed by animal rights activists. Because nutria are both frugal and highly adaptable, they have been able to seize their opportunity and have spread everywhere in self-sustaining populations. They reproduce twice a year, giving birth to 4-6 young per litter.
