The goldfinch is native to the sunny edges of moist deciduous forests. Not so long ago, goldfinches started to adapt to man-made landscapes, such as orchards and parks. The main requirement for the presence of goldfinches is rich vegetation with plenty of composites (thistles, dandelions). These plants produce the seeds on which the goldfinch depends almost entirely. Only the young also get plenty of insects as they grow. These contain the proteins so important for growth.
During the morning walk, the goldfinch patiently sits on the thistle for a photo opportunity.
