In the east of Myanmar lies the province of Kayah of which Loikaw is the capital. This area is known for the various tribes that live here including the Langnekken (Kayan), the Kayah and the Ka Yaw. Because this area is often not included in tours you will not find many tourists here. It is also quite a tour to come here. But if you take the trouble to go here you can get acquainted with these special tribes. Relatively near the village of Loikaw you'll find the Kayan and the Kayah but if you drive further into the mountains you'll find some villages where the Ka Yaw still live in their traditional way. Also the youth here takes over the traditions of their parents, something you see less and less. During a walk through the village and the surroundings you can get acquainted with these very friendly people and their way of life. We met these 2 girls who were quenching their thirst in the river.
