The coastal landscape of the Netherlands is dominated by the dunes: a unique natural area that forms the boundary between sea and land. These sandy hills, formed by wind and water, stretch along the entire coastline and tell a story of centuries of interaction between man and nature.
The dunes are more than just a natural seawall; they harbour a rich ecosystem. Among the marram grass, flowering dune rose and bushes, birds, insects and small mammals find their habitat. In the silence, you only hear the rustling of the wind and the rhythm of the waves in the background.
Visually, the dunes offer a varied backdrop. From the high peaks you look out over the endless beach and the North Sea, while in the valleys small pools and grasslands form a surprising contrast. Especially at sunrise and sunset, the rolling shapes and colours take on an almost picturesque character.
An image of the dunes is thus a reflection of the Dutch coast: powerful, dynamic and hushed at the same time. It is a place where nature and horizon meet and where, as a visitor, you can experience the grandeur of this landscape again and again.
