The Zion National Park is a nature reserve in the United States. It became a National Monument in 1909, and in 1919 a National Park, in 1937 the park was expanded with Kolob.
The name 'Zion' got this park of Mormon pioneers in 1860. The Mormons or "Saints of Jesus Christ of the last days" are a religion that is mainly located in Utah. Derived from the biblical 'Zion', this gave them the meaning of a place of peace and security. Also the name Kolob comes from their writings, [1] it means: the first creation, a place close to God. Around 2000 years ago, "Anasazi" or ancient Pueblo peoples lived here, until about 800 years ago. Then the tribe of the Paiute lived here until the Mormon pioneers arrived.
