Zeeland Bridge The Netherlands. The famous bridge in Zeeland over the Oosterschelde photographed at dusk with a long exposure and a minimalistic approach. The bridge connects Schouwen-Duiveland with Noord-Beveland and is 5 km long.
The Zeeland Bridge has become an icon for Zeeland and a very popular location among landscape photographers. The bridge lends itself extremely well to minimalism. A movement in photography that emphasizes one subject in a 'sea of space', in the case of the Zeeland Bridge, almost literally.
The photo was taken with a slow shutter speed of a few minutes, blurring the water and sky. This creates a surrealistic and timeless image that exudes a lot of tranquility.
The bridge was opened in 1965 by Queen Juliana and has been a national monument since 2015. From that moment on, the structure replaced the ferry service between Zierikzee and Kats. The Province of Zeeland manages the Zeeland Bridge and is also the owner of the monument. On the Zierikzee side is a part that can be opened for large ships. This was done from a bridge keeper's house until 2008. Nowadays the bridge is operated from the Nautic Central in Vlissingen.
