The photograph was taken early one winter morning at the Gat van den Ham on the border of the villages Hooge Zwaluwe and Lage Zwaluwe, both belonging to the municipality of Drimmelen, province of Noord-Brabant. The Gat van den Ham is a nature reserve with a creek system which, at the same time as the Biesbosch, came into being during the Sint-Elisabethflood of 1421. Behind the dike is the river Amer.
