The Douglas C-47 Skytrain was one of the workhorses of the Allied forces. The aircraft was built in large numbers and was used, among other things, to drop paratroopers over occupied territory such as during Operation Overlord (Normandy, D-Day) and Operation Market Garden (south-eastern Netherlands).
The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a fighter aircraft that, among other things, escorted bombers en route to Germany.
The Supermarine Spitfire became best known for its role in the Battle of Britain that took place from July to November 1940.
