Woodland Friends in the first frost – forest animals amongst red rose hips

by Floral Abstractions

The Woodland Friends are experiencing the first frosty days in the forest. The fox, raccoon, badger, squirrel and hedgehog have gathered amongst birch trees, ferns, grasses and moss-covered stones. Above them hangs a curved branch bearing deep red rose hips, with tiny drops of water glistening on them. The squirrel watches the group from a branch, whilst the other animals explore the forest floor together.

The illustration combines the charm of classic children’s book illustrations with a calm, Scandinavian-inspired design. Rust red, muted green, cream, grey and frosty blue define the natural colour palette. Light-coloured birches, evergreen plants and delicate twigs form a loose frame around the animals. The red berries add a warm touch to the increasingly wintry landscape.

As a wall art piece, this design is particularly suitable for children’s bedrooms, nurseries, playrooms and cosy reading corners. The friendly forest animals complement an interior featuring a woodland theme, Scandinavian elements, natural materials and soft colours. Combined with other designs from the Woodland Friends series, they create a harmonious gallery wall telling little stories from the forest and the changing seasons.

The fox looks up at the rose hips, whilst the raccoon sits in the middle of the group. The badger explores the plants on the forest floor and the little hedgehog runs through the frosty grass. High above them, the squirrel sits amongst the birch trees and looks down at its friends.

Cool grass, bare twigs and scattered autumn leaves signal the transition into winter. The rose hips and their glistening droplets form the centrepiece of this little story of discovery. The mural invites children to observe animals, plants and the changes in nature closely.
