On the banks of the Geeuw, the centuries-old waterway connection between IJlst and Sneek, stands the unique sawmill "the Rat" which is still in full production.
You can come here for a guided tour and sawn and dried wood is for sale.
Logs lying in the water, the sound of the turning sails, the pounding of the up and down sawing frames, the smell of freshly sawn wood, here you can still experience the old woodcutting craft as it has been carried out daily in "De Rat" for over three centuries.
