Winter at the windmills of the Zaanse Schans

by Ewold Kooistra

A winter scene at the Zaanse Schans, where historic windmills stand majestically along the water. A thin layer of snow covers the roofs, paths and banks, while the dark water of the Zaan provides a striking contrast. From the air, there is a beautiful view of the windmill area, with the characteristic green wooden buildings and turning sails as eye-catchers.

The winding dyke in the foreground leads the eye past the windmills and the water towards the village and industry in the background. The combination of cultural heritage and modern industry gives the image a unique Dutch character. The winter atmosphere creates peace and tranquillity, while the composition exudes dynamism through the lines of the road, water and sails.

This aerial photograph brings history, landscape and winter together in one powerful image. An atmospheric wall decoration for lovers of windmills, typical Dutch scenes and unusual drone perspectives.
