This picture was prominently featured in the book Woodscapes. This was taken on a gloomy winter morning on the Veluwe, on top of one of the hills there. The fog was dense and I felt like I had chose the wrong spot for photography. I just could not see anything that would make a nice image and finally I gave up. I accepted that I was just not seeing it on that day and I decided to just take a walk, which I always like to do. All of a sudden I spotted this scene with birch trees and a tiny tree with all the autumn leaves still attached to it and the gloomy oak tree in the distance. I immediately loved the intimacy of the scene even though this is an open area. I had my telephoto lens on which Brough the oak a little closer into the frame and I took this picture which I still love. It tells a story of a gloomy winter day with the smallest tree persisting to hang onto its leaves.
