The Grote or Lebuinuskerk is a gothic hall church at the Grote Kerkhof in Deventer. In the Middle Ages it was the main church of the city and one of the main churches within the diocese of Utrecht. During the short existence of the Roman Catholic diocese of Deventer (1559-1591), the Lebuinus church served as a cathedral. The church is listed in the 'Top 100 of the Rijksdienst voor de Monumentenzorg' from 1990. The church is property of the Protestant Church, while the tower is property of the municipality of Deventer.

Deventer is a Dutch city in the province of Overijssel, and is situated on the river IJssel. In the Middle Ages Deventer was part of the Hanseatic League, an important North German trade network. Deventer is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands. The place is already in 9th-century sources of the diocese of Utrecht mentioned. A charter from 877 mentions seven farms in Daventre portu. In 952 Deventer is mentioned as a city in a donation charter of king Otto I. After the city had acquired more and more rights and privileges in the course of time, it received in 1123 from emperor Hendrik V the disposal of the municipal grounds. Historians consider this to be the moment when the inhabitants obtained city rights. The city has the oldest stone house, the oldest public park and, with the Athenaeum Library, the oldest scientific library in the Netherlands.
