African elephants are found in sub-Saharan Africa. They are the only surviving species with trunks; former members, now extinct, include mammoths and mastodons . They are the largest living land animals. Male African elephants can reach a height of 4 m and weigh up to 7000 kgs. These animals have several distinguishing features, such as a trunk that is used for many purposes, especially for grabbing objects. Their incisors grow into tusks and serve as tools for moving objects, digging and as weapons during combat. The elephant's large ear flaps are used to control the temperature of the body. African elephants have large ears and a hollow back, while Asian elephants have smaller ears with a convex or straight back. Also available in black and white.
