In addition to a thick undercoat, the wild boar has a dark, brush-like coat that 's longer and darker in winter than in summer. In spring, the winter hairs fall out. Then they grow a shorter and lighter coat. Wild boars have a stocky trunk and sturdy body. The hind legs are shorter than the front legs. Wild boars have an elongated head with a flattened, strong snout. The nose ends in a rooting disc. Their ears are broad, erect and hairy. The wild boar has small eyes. The wild boar's eyesight is relatively poor; thus, they cannot recognise a human if it is not moving. In contrast, their sense of smell and touch is very well developed; wild boars also have very fine hearing. Adults have a tail that ends in a plume. Adult males are called keilers or boars. Females are called sows.
