I found this water lily in a pond in the Hageland, half hidden behind reeds. That natural veil made me feel like I was looking through a curtain at a small stage where only light and leaves played the main roles.
There is something timeless and spiritual about water lilies: their white calyces seem to be reborn every moment. They look pure and virginal and remind me of the purity of our souls
While making this image, I heard the muted murmur of the water and the gentle tapping of drops against the reeds.
For me, this work stands for stillness and clarity: sometimes it takes some searching, but if you really want to, you can always find your soul among the rush of reeds. Once you see it, everything becomes clearer. The reeds are not gone, but they become secondary. You have a focal point, a foothold in the green of existence. In the image, it is a place to rest your gaze and meditate on your peace of soul.
In an interior, the water lily brings a meditative quality without being heavy. The soft layers in the sculpture add depth and make it suitable for spaces where you like to breathe and slow down.
The Hageland shows its quiet side here: not grand, but intimate and close, exactly where I prefer to find beauty.
