A bier house is a small building or space in a cemetery or graveyard where the dead were laid to rest, whose death could not yet be determined with certainty. Burial was only allowed after 36 hours, because experience showed that death had definitely set in after that. This term has been maintained in the Burial Act to this day. The Baarhuisje in Nunspeet is no longer in use.
