White cliffs and blue sea in Sicily

by Jeroen Berendse

About this work:
At the Scala dei Turchi, near Realmonte on the southern coast of Sicily, my eyes rest on undulating rocks of snow-white marl. Over the centuries, the wind and waves have smoothed and softened the limestone, creating a natural staircase that descends into the Mediterranean Sea. Behind them, the water stretches out in every shade of blue, from deep cobalt to bright turquoise, beneath a sky dotted with a few clouds. The soft shapes and bright light exude summer, tranquillity and space. This piece brings the serene atmosphere of a Mediterranean coastline into your home and gives every wall a fresh, light feel.

About Jeroen Berendse:
In my day job, I’m a marketer. That means listening carefully to and observing customers, and using that knowledge to devise relevant solutions. As a photographer, I actually do the same thing, with the difference that I mainly listen closely to myself.

Photography is a way of telling a story. Captured in the perfect still image. A good photograph takes you in your mind’s eye to a special place in the world, an event that makes you smile or sets your creative mind at work. And because this is very personal, the same photograph evokes a unique experience and feeling in everyone – both the photographer and the viewer.

My portfolio contains photographs of a wide variety of subjects. You can find my full portfolio in my shop at Werk aan de Muur and on my website www.jeroenberendse.nl.
