Where Surfaces and Dreams Meet II – Pastel Portrait of a Woman by Bianca ter Riet

This expressive portrait exudes calm, elegance and refinement. At its centre is a stylised female figure with her eyes closed, creating a sense of introspection and serenity. The elongated neck and soft facial features lend the work a dreamy, almost ethereal quality. Warm earth tones on the face are combined with subtle pink accents on the cheeks and lips, giving the portrait a soft, feminine appearance. The colourful headdress, composed of abstract patches of colour in lilac, cream, burgundy and mint green, forms a powerful visual focal point. Large oval earrings in a matching shade of purple enhance the figure’s stylish and contemporary look. The long eyelashes and golden-yellow eyeshadow add a touch of glamour, whilst the closed eyes invite a sense of tranquillity and reflection.

The background consists of a playful interplay of geometric shapes and organic forms in shades of green, ochre yellow, pink, white and terracotta. This abstract composition creates depth and balance without distracting from the portrait. The visible brushstrokes and the texture of the canvas lend the painting an artisanal and vibrant character.

The overall effect exudes a modern, decorative style in which figurative and abstract elements come together harmoniously. The fresh colours and balanced composition make the work a real eye-catcher that radiates both warmth and refinement. This painting fits effortlessly into a modern, Scandinavian or bohemian interior and brings a sense of softness, colour and artistic elegance to any space. Modern Abstract. Botanical.
