The Water Lily family (Nymphaeaceae) is a family of angiosperms. They are aquatic plants: the flowers and leaves float on the water, but the roots hold the plants in place. With about sixty species, this is a small family. The plants occur worldwide, outside the polar regions and deserts. In Flanders and the Netherlands, the yellow plump (Nuphar lutea) and the white water lily (Nymphaea alba) occur naturally.
