Watercolour painting of the back of the Kloveniersdoelen in Middelburg, Zeeland. The Kloveniersdoelen was built in 1611 for the rifle militia called the Kloveniers and has a Flemish façade. It later served as a recruiting depot for the VOC, and during the French invasion the building was set up as a military hospital. In 1914, wounded Belgian soldiers were still being nursed there.
