Water salute after the farewell flight of the last KDC-10 of the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
On Thursday, October 7, 2021, the Royal Netherlands Air Force bid farewell to its last KDC-10 tanker and transport aircraft with a farewell flight. This farewell flight started at just before 12 am from Eindhoven Air Base. The aircraft flew at a low altitude towards the military airbases in Volkel, Leeuwarden, Den Helder, Woensdrecht and Gilze-Rijen. After a flight of about 2 hours, the aircraft landed back at Eindhoven where it was greeted with a water salute of the fire brigade in honor of the farewell.
The Royal Netherlands Air Force purchased 3 DC-10 passenger aircraft from Martinair in the 1990s and had 2 aircraft converted into tanker and transport aircraft.
Fortunately, we still have the pictures of this memorable aircraft and moment.
