About ‘Water and stone by the North Sea’ by Geert Van Baelen

This photograph, taken at the Western Breakwater in Ostend, captures the powerful and unpredictable beauty of the North Sea. Dark basalt blocks form a rugged foreground, whilst the waves crash ceaselessly against the coast.
The threatening cloudy sky and the play of light on the water heighten the dramatic atmosphere and emphasise the raw power of the wind and the sea. In the distance, the Ostend skyline is subtly silhouetted against the horizon, adding depth and context to the image.
The combination of moving water, sturdy coastal defences and changing weather conditions makes this photograph an authentic representation of the Belgian coast. Ideal for lovers of landscape photography, maritime imagery and the unspoilt beauty of the North Sea.
