Photo of the guardhouse on Englishman's Plate, after sunset. The sky is orange. In the foreground a pool of water. Peace and quiet....
In the Wadden Sea, in the sea channel between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog lies Engelsmanplaat. A sandbank where dozens of shorebirds and resting and hundreds of seals. Engelsmanplaat is usually uninhabited. Only during the bird breeding season do two bird watchers keep an eye out here to ensure the peace and quiet of the breeding birds.
You can only get there by boat. Or join an organized mudflat walking tour from the Frisian mainland. During low tide, most of Engelsmanplaat is accessible
I took this photo after a boat trip of one hour, with the boat De Dolfijn. The sun had just set, and the sky was still turning a beautiful orange. The plate was as good as deserted. The bird watch house is in the center of the picture. On the side you can see another boat. The photo was taken in August 2022.
