* ICE LAND *
View through a block of ice to the sea at the black beach of Iceland at Breidamerkursandur.
Full effort of man and material was required for this picture.
A calving glacier on Iceland drives its ice chunks out to the open sea, which are then washed up again on the offshore beach.
Close to the bottom and in the middle of the surf zone, the camera was positioned under one of the large ice blocks. Approximately every 30 seconds the surf waves shot through the opening in the ice, and always only in the last moment the camera together with tripod could be secured again, in order not to be washed around by the waves.
