The imperial and Hanseatic town of Tangermünde is located at the mouth of the Tanger river into the Elbe in the south-east of the district of Stendal in northern Saxony-Anhalt.

Tangermünde is often described as one of the most beautiful small towns in Germany, not least because of its well-preserved medieval old town with half-timbered houses and a town wall. The town in Saxony-Anhalt is known for its historic atmosphere, the imposing late Gothic town hall and its picturesque location on the Elbe.
This photo was taken near the mouth of the River Tangier into the Elbe. It is a view of Tangermünde Castle and St Stephen's Church across the river.

Tangermünde offers historic architecture and medieval flair, making it an attractive destination for visitors looking for historic places. Its location on the Elbe is also an attraction for tourists.

Saxony-Anhalt is centrally located in Germany and Central Europe. The two largest cities in the state are the state capital Magdeburg and Halle (Saale).
