A photo taken shortly after sunrise - the fog shrouds the vast land below Brocken and Wurmberg.
At 1142 metres above sea level, the Brocken is the highest mountain in the Harz low mountain range, in Saxony-Anhalt and in the whole of northern Germany. It is located in the Schierke district of the town of Wernigerode in the Harz district of Saxony-Anhalt.
At just over 971 metres, the Wurmberg is the highest peak in Lower Saxony and the second-highest mountain in the Harz Mountains. It is home to the largest and most snow-sure alpine ski area in northern Germany.
The Brocken is just under 5 kilometres away.
