About ‘Vermeer: The Milkmaid’ by Ton de Zwart

In 2014, years before the Vermeer boom, I made a study of the painting "The Milkmaid".
As recently shown in the documentary on Vermeer, his studio, lighting plan and working methods are good to study.

In my photo studio, I had built the set. Two walls, plaster stucco with an antique window in them.
Details, like the nail in the wall, the plinth of Delftware tiles, the baskets, everything had to be right.
I could rent the costume, which had been commissioned by a museum. The jug was Moroccan pottery, the bread from AH, the stove bought from an antique dealer in Delft.
Behind the frosted glass window I had placed a studio flash.

I had chosen the model because of her resemblance to the original. She was not Dutch but ... Russian. Her name was Varya, who was visiting her sister, an acquaintance of mine. When I saw her I knew: I must have her.
To my mind, everything is right in the picture.

The photo was printed large and framed.

His father taught him to handle analogue cameras, to work with film, chemicals and to print on paper. Prof photographer since 2018.
Raised with black and white photography his journey into photography was a long and slow burn.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
