It is considered one of the most beautiful bookshops in the world and is called "Acqua Alta", and indeed it is a must for every book rat and all lovers of Venice.
When you enter the "Acqua Alta" bookshop in Venice, astonishment is the first feeling. Not only the shelves on the walls, as is the case with every bookshop, are overflowing with books. Volumes are stacked and piled up everywhere, creating almost curious "buildings". A gondola lies stranded in the middle of the bookshop: the typical Venetian boat is full of books, but scattered around the premises are bathtubs and canoes well filled with books. This solution was chosen for practical reasons instead of normal bookshelves. In case of a flood, such "containers" are definitely more suitable than normal shelves.
At "Acqua Alta", however, you can find not only new publications but also second-hand books of all kinds. Whether music, literature or comics: everyone gets their money's worth here. You can discover rare books and others about the history of the lagoon city. But you can also buy old postcards, calendars and prints. But the surprises don't end there: very old books, which are actually already waste paper, even form stairs in a kind of backyard on the side of the canal. Climbing them, you can enjoy a unique view of the lagoon city. But the real owners of these fantastic and unique bookshops are a couple of cats who, like true Venetians, are hardly bothered by the hustle and bustle and simply continue their nap.
