Veere is a municipality on the former island of Walcheren in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The municipality has 21,874 inhabitants (1 July 2021, source: CBS). The former working island Neeltje Jans also belongs to the territory of the municipality. Since 1811 there has been a municipality of Veere, initially consisting of the city of Veere and the village of Zanddijk. With the municipal redivision of 1 July 1966 the former municipalities Serooskerke and Vrouwenpolder were added. This situation lasted until the end of 1996. On 1 January 1997, the current Veere municipality was formed by merging with the municipalities of Domburg, Mariekerke, Valkenisse and Westkapelle.
