Veere is a town with history on the former island of Walcheren in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It is located northeast of Middelburg on the Canal through Walcheren and on Lake Veere. Numerous monuments showcase the town's rich past. The source of that wealth lies in the town harbour, which used to be in direct connection with the sea. Around 1470, Veere reached its greatest prosperity. At this time, the first fortifications, the Great Church and the Town Hall were built. You can still admire these monuments. And as you walk along the small cobblestones past the Scottish houses on the Kaai, you can still feel the foreign influences! In historic Veere, time seems to stand still.
