About ‘Vase from above (#30, vase by Monique)’ by Kees Schouten
A vase of flowers, but photographed from above. An alternative point of view that produces a simple graphic image. Almost abstract.
The (spent) sunflowers themselves are not visible but the hairy stem and leaves are enough to recognize sunflowers in them.
The art deco vase is nicely balanced in color with the leaves and flower…

After leaving the academy in 1984, I painted for many years. Since about twenty years I have really only made photographic works. Mostly still lifes with glass vases. Glass is a fantastic -but also difficult- material to photograph.
I like to put people on the wrong foot with my works. Hopefully you recognize this when you see my work. Still lifes from a different perspective.
