University School of Divinity, Edinburgh by Nynke Altenburg

High above the greenery of Edinburgh, New College rises impressively against the blue sky. This distinctive building, now home to the University of Edinburgh’s School of Divinity, is one of the Old Town’s most recognisable landmarks. Its tall towers, dark sandstone façades and graceful spires give the building an almost fairy-tale appearance.

What makes this photograph particularly special are the autumn colours in the foreground. The trees are cloaked in warm shades of yellow, gold, green and brown, creating a beautiful contrast with the dark stones of New College. The crisp blue of the sky completes the colour palette and gives the photograph a bright, vibrant feel.

From this vantage point, the building emerges beautifully from amongst the trees. The leaves add depth to the scene and soften the imposing architecture. At the same time, the tall towers naturally draw your gaze upwards, allowing you to appreciate the grandeur of this historic building.

New College is situated on The Mound, right in the historic heart of Edinburgh and close to the Royal Mile. The combination of centuries-old architecture, the city’s greenery and the warm colours of autumn gives this photograph a quintessentially Edinburgh feel.

An atmospheric image where history and nature come together. The warm autumnal hues also bring a cosy and natural atmosphere to the interior, whilst the distinctive architecture adds a timeless touch to the wall.
