U.S. Marine Corps Lockheed Martin F-35B Lightning II.
Registration: 168840.
Squadron: VMFA 121.
The F-35B is the Short Take Off Vertical Landing (STOVL) variant developed for the U.S. Marine Corps and the Royal Navy to replace the various versions of the Hawker Siddeley Harrier.
Unlike the A and C versions of the F-35, the B version has two turbines. To make room for the second turbine, which is needed to land vertically, the connection for aerial refuelling has been moved from the centre to the right side of the fuselage. In addition, the B version does not have a fixed onboard gun, but it can be carried in a separate pod.
