Registration: 86-0176.
On the morning of Monday 15 June 2020, the aircraft in this photo crashed into the North Sea, sadly killing the pilot.
The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle was developed in the late '60s early '70s as a response to the latest aircraft from the then Soviet Union. The prototype first flew in July 1972. In the '70s, the Eagle became the successor to the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, among others. Its high maximum speed, 10 kilometres per minute climb capability and advanced navigation and radar systems made this aircraft ideally suited for air defence.
This photo was taken on Monday 11 July 2016 during the departure day of the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford.
