When you cannot move the subjects of a photo, composition is a matter of choosing a point of view and crop that you use to organise the photo.
This image is a strong example of that. By ensuring that only parts of the two boats and the sky are visible, this becomes a minimalist but powerful image.
The minimalism is reinforced by removing colour and letting the view be defined only by the gradations of grey and light.
This image essence tells a story of a large cargo ship still in use and a much smaller, now decommissioned boat next to it. Old and new are built for the same purpose, but meet in different states - under the same sky.
