Many people think that tulips come from the Netherlands. Of course this is true now, but originally this bulbous plant comes from Turkey. In the Middle Ages, a tulip there was a very scarce product that only the rich people could afford. When the tulip came to the Netherlands (Leiden to be precise) the very high price for one bulb was limited. After this the tulip trade started to flourish in the Netherlands which we can still enjoy today.
