About ‘Tulip’ by Sylvia Van Dijk

Tulips are elegant flowers that add colour to bulb fields in spring. A favourite flower at home and abroad.

Origin
Tulips are native to the area that has come to be known as Kazakhstan. The genus' range extends from the Iberian Peninsula through North Africa to Greece, the Balkans, Turkey, the Middle East, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Ukraine, southern Siberia, Mongolia and north-western China. However, the greatest diversity is found in three mountain ranges in Central Asia: the Pamir, the Tiensyan and Hindu Kush. The climate in these three mountain regions is characterised by a cold winter that allows vernalisation to occur, a long spring with cold nights and a dry summer. Such a climate is ideal for tulips.

My name is Sylvia van Dijk. Born and raised on the coast of Zuid-Holland in Katwijk. After 13 years on the sun-drenched island of Curacao we settled down in the beautiful province of Groningen, just across the border with Drenthe, in Musselkanaal in June 2020. On a beautiful spot on the canal where in summer the many yachts pass by, we are completely at our place. A lovely garden for the dogs where of course all kinds of interesting things can be seen through my 180mm macro…
