A bulb-growing field is a by-product of bulb-growing, which attracts many foreign tourists to the Netherlands.
A bulb field is a field where bulbs (initially only tulips) are grown on a commercial basis. After the bulbs have come into flower, they are headed. The bulbs are then harvested and exported all over the world, where buyers plant them in their own gardens.
The first bulb fields were planted from the second half of the 19th century in what is now the Bulb Region. Today, the majority of bulb fields are still found in the bulb-growing region and in the north of the province of North Holland, but they can also be found elsewhere in the country, including near Venlo, on Texel, in the northwest of the province of Friesland, in the Noordoostpolder and on the islands of Zeeland and South Holland.
